Meet Our Woman of the Week | Kolby McKenzie

"Chi Omega is truly knowing that even if you're having the worst day ever, at least 80 girls are already praying for you. I have seen these girls drop everything in order to brighten someone else's day by sitting down to pray with them, grabbing a cup of coffee, accompanying them to the rec, or even just watching Netflix by their side. We all deal with hard times differently, and it is comforting to know that within Chi O, you can find a girl who copes in the same way you do. I am forever grateful to be a part of such a loving and selfless group of young women."

About Kolby (submitted by Maddy):
Kolby McKenzie, what a gal. She is the perfect representation of "loving like Jesus does." Kolby loves with her whole heart all of the time. We really just met this spring semester and she has quickly become someone I call my best friend because she instantly made me feel so comfortable to be myself. She has a way of making everyone in the room feel loved and excited to be there. Her energy and sense of adventure overflow onto everyone around her. She never changes herself for others and she's 100% Kolby Mack 100% of the time. She inspires me daily to be better: more loving and accepting of everyone around me, more energetic and ready to tackle anything, and more confident of who I am in all aspects of life. I think I speak for everyone who's encountered Kolbcat when I say, she's truly one-of-a-kind.
What are you most excited about for your sophomore year?
I'm most excited about starting classes that truly apply to my major. It's so much more fulfilling learning about the things that you truly love. It gets me so pumped for the rest of my life.
Why did you choose your major?
That's actually a funny story. Going into freshman year, I was a special education major. Over the course of the first semester, I realized that special education wasn't where God was really calling me so THE WEEK OF registering for second semester classes (one of the most stressful experiences ever), I talked to my advisor, searched countless websites, visited the career center, and even spoke with a career coach to try to score a new major AND get the classes I wanted. I chose my current major without truly believing it was the right path, but now that I have taken specific classes and explored career options, I know it was the perfect choice. So many people suffer with communication disorders, ranging from small children to the elderly. My goal is to help provide these people with a life free of limitation due to speech.
If you had one memory that you could relive, what would it be and why?
I know this is super cliche, but honestly, I would relive the moment I opened my bid. The anticipation of the slow countdown was almost too much to bear, but as soon as I snatched the paper out to reveal my bid, the wait was so worth it. It was truly one of the happiest moments of my life!
What is your favorite book?
"Atonement" by Ian McEwan. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes so I constantly have a new book in my hand. This book stars out in particular because it paints an excellent picture of how we react to situations differently over the course of our maturity. The storyline follows a young girl who witnesses an act with her innocent eyes and makes a decision from which she never truly recovers. Honestly, it is the best book I've ever read. It's also been made into a movie!
